“Rasputin - The Romanov Family & the Russian Revolution”
Running Time: 35 minutes

This documentary details the self-proclaimed “holy man” and a faith healer Grigori Rasputin who became a guru to the Russian Romanov royal family in the early 1900’s, contributing to the tragic downfall of the family that was caused by the 1917 Russian Revolution.

Following are points made in the video:

— In 1906, the emperor of Russia Tsar Nicholas II Romanov and his wife became convinced that a self-procalimed “holy man” and a faith healer Grigori Rasputin cured their son of a hemophilia-related leg injury through prayer, which led to the couple developing a close personal relationship with Rasputin, cementing him as a permanent presence in the family’s life.

— The Romanov family had absolute power in Russia since the 1600’s, and Rasputin eventually became infamous in Russia as being a debauched philanderer and a drunkard, with it becoming well-known that he had tremendous influence over the royal family and thus the Russian Empire itself, which caused an uproar with the populace.

— When World War I broke out, Tsar Nicholas II was preoccupied with directing the Russian troops who were fighting on the front, which resulted in Rasputin gaining significant administrative authority by taking advantage of his close personal relationship with the Tsar’s wife.

— In 1916 Rasputin was assassinated by people associated with the Romanov family who resented the inordinate influence that he had over the decisions of the Tsar and his wife.

— The widespread public distrust of the Romanovs that was caused by their close relationship with Rasputin was a factor in the entire family eventually being imprisoned and then murdered in the Communist Russian Revolution of 1917.
