The Spanish Conquest of the Incan Empire
Running Time: 13 minutes

This documentary details how Francisco Pizarro subjugated the Incan Empire on the western coast of South America in the 1500’s.

Following are points the video explains:

— Pizarro was the second cousin of Hernan Cortez, who subjugated the Aztecs in previous years.

— The video talks abut how the king of the Incas Atahualpa initially attempted to peacefully meet with Pizarro and his troops once he learned about their presence, but Pizarro immediately massacred Atahualpa’s troops and kidnapped him at the meeting.

— Smallpox also decimated the native people in the area at the time, killing 90% of the population.

— While being detained, King Atahualpa was required to order his people to hand over massive amounts of their gold and silver artifacts as a ransom, which the Spanish immediately melted down into ingots.

— More Spanish troops then poured into the region, and in 1533 the Spanish tied Atahualpa to a stake in front of his people, forced him to convert to Christianity, and then immediately strangled him to death afterwards.
