“History of Ancient Greece: Fall of Mycenaean Civilization and the Greek Dark Age”
This video explains the fall of the Mycenaean Civilization in 1,100 BC and the Dark Age that followed which lasted until 750 BC.
Following are points from the video:
— The Mycenaean Civilization collapsed at about 1,100 BC, with the cause of the collapse being debated among scholars, where it is agreed that the Mycenaeans were attacked but the identity of the attackers is debated.
— During the time of the Dark Ages, no new palaces were built, extensive trade networks were broken, knowledge of writing died out, and a massive population decline happened throughout Greece.
— Very little technological or cultural achievement happened during that time, except for the adoption of iron smelting which was a material that was stronger and more plentiful than Bronze.
— At about 1,000 BC, the population of Greece starting to increase once more, and Greek people started to migrate to other areas.
— The Greek Dark Ages ended at about the 750’s BC with the introduction of new types of pottery called “geometric ware,” the adoption of the Greek Alphabet, and the Olympic games starting to be held in Olympia, Greece.
